	thanks for your example. it's, indeed clear to you all that i'm a linux 
newbie ;)
	i've done it so, as well as XINDICE_HOME but nothing changed. i checked 
for the loclahost:4080 and it does works. how might i see the ports that 
are running on the machine?
	so, the situation right now is that is supposed to be xindice server 
running but it doesn't appear thru ps. i probably reset the machine to try 
again
