assuming you are interested in an "interface to an XML DB" (not WAR oriented etc) and you don't mind 'local browsing ' - i.e. running desktop/wkstation apps:

These are PHP include files for the Xindice XML-RPC interface. If you are looking for a PHP-based app, your best bet is probably to write one using these RPC 'wrappers') etc. You can find a very complete installer pkg courtesy of that walt guy at http://www.thatwaltguy.com/xinstaller/ (this installs attrezzo etc) You will also find links to other related Xindice-front-end projects on these pages. Sorry, I haven't tried all of these with Xindice 1.0 (and I have not tried *any* of them with 1.1).
