Hi all,
I am going through and documenting my class hierarchy that I checked
into
PHP Xindice Admin on sourceforge. And I realized I screwed up some of the
function signatures and what not. I guess I'm just used to a compiler
telling me that I messed up some method signature. So within the next few
days I hope to have a new set of code checked into sourceforge that will "Do
the Right Thing". I'm using phpdoc to document all the code, so that should
make any future transition to pear pretty simple.

I agree with most of your points...
i haven't tried any i18n stuff since i haven't had a need for it.
i tried to make my objects pretty independent of the rendering... so if you
don't like how things look you can just make your own 'HtmlViewer' object.
I am totally open to suggestions on this tho... it just what i've been
using.
(and stefan's followup is right on... editing xml in a textarea sucks...
another person i work with is trying to find a better way right now actually
:)

Subject: RE: XML DB Web Interface
thanks for the follow-ups.
i have picked up the CVS version and hope to have feedback to give
this week...
hopefully having a good PHP front-end would help us (users) with
not just the items mentioned by richard, but also
some usability design points that have surfaced on this list like
1) internationalization (i18n,l10n etc) and
2) multi-platform support
all other things equal, imho the tools support & usability *does*
impact the adoption rate of a DBMS, and - for open software in
particular - the adoption rate propels the software quality.
(e.g. PEAR installer & litany of others)
regarding the PHP toolset, i actually find it helpful when authors
include available hooks for configurable options (like XML-RPC distro).
i can configure PHP the way that i want, but some users cannot.
for PHP in particular, there are tons of configuration options (that
work/don't work on *nix v. windoze). most site administrators seek
sparseness & are hard to motivate when a re-config is concerned.
there is a third item that i hesitate to mention - cross browser
support. despite its very strong roots in the open software
community, the 'any browser' concept has all but completely
evaporated. i admit guilt here (& for every other sin!). it is
only when i travel outside the US that i realize how critical i18n
and x-browser support are.
but this is *truly* a topic for another list ...
in any case, THANK YOU both for continuing your fine work!
