I have a lot of problems doing the same as you. I want to get Xindice working with Tomcat 5.0.18. on
Windows2000. Unfortunately I started with the stable Xindice 1.0 which turns out to be quite
different from 1.1b3. This was not clear from the documentation.
I am currently trying http://xml.apache.org/xindice/guide-administrator.html#Installing+the+Server
I suppose that this is what you have done with no luck.
Hi Kim,
Thanks for the reply.
Here is a set of instructions which, I think, will get you up and running (part way) with 1.1 beta 3.
1. Download the .exe for Tomcat 5.0.18 and the war version of Xindice 1.1 beta 3.
2. Run the Tomcat installer. Install to X:\Tomcat5.0.18 (don't put in spaces) and select a suitable JRE (J2SE 1.4.2 works for me)
3. At the end of the installation elect to run Tomcat
4. In a Web browser type http://localhost:8080/ and the Tomcat Welcome page should display
If you are not able to get that far let me know.
5. Stop Tomcat - you MUST do that to allow the next step - you will need to go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. You may have to "start" Tomcat and then stop it. The Services tool didn't seem to "see" Tomcat at first.
6. Copy xindice-1.1b3.war to the X:\Tomcat5.0.18\webapps, assuming you installed as suggested above.
7. Rename xindice-1.1b3.war to xindice.war
8. Restart Tomcat from the Services window
9. Enter http://localhost:8080/xindice/ and you should see a window acknowledging that it is an ugly debugging tool.
10. Click the db link to get to database.xml which shows that the Xindice 1.1 database is empty.
11. Join me in waiting for an answer to how to get the Xindice 1.1 command line tool working. :)
