You can either read documentation online, or, documentation is included with JAR and WAR releases (see in docs directory). SRC release contains sources of the documentation in XML files (xdocs directory).

In the last release, command line tool is included only in SRC release. JAR and WAR releases do not have command line tool (yet). Next version, 1.1b4, will have command line tool included with each release.
All bat|sh files were modified for the upcoming 1.1b4 release, and they use following env variables:
XINDICE_HOME
XINDICE_DB_HOME
XINDICE_CONFIG
LOGGER
LOGLEVEL
All these parameters are optional. See current Xindice CVS version for details on these new scripts.
Do you know if the tool XML:db GUI should work on Xindice 1.1b3? I have changed the conf.xml file to
1.1, but gets "Error during connection: null"
Don't know, I had never used it.
I'd like to try though webdav tool by Jan (http://metzner.org/projects/webadmin/).
