After re-installing b3 we found the following :
1. Unwaring takes up 4.9 MB of disk space. 2. Each collection takes up 12 KB when created.
We are running Xindice on Windows 2000 with JSDK 1.4.0_01

After this report, I went back and installed 1.1b3 and tried out creating a new collection. Unless I made some mistake, it was of the 6MB size as well.
