Xmail Filter not working

I'm running  0.71 on a Redhat box.
Xmail works fine in every respect apart from the fact I cannot get filters
to work

I cannot get Xmail to run any script contained in filters/.tab or
mydomain.tab.
I have tried putting in scripts to just see I script in above file is
actually running and it would <appear> it isn't.
I'm trying to filter mail from an external pop3 server using uvscan.

Any help greatly appreciated.
