Upgrading

I was hoping someone can give me a few pointers before I attempt this.

 I'm upgrading 0.70 to 1.0 and was wondering if all I need to do replace the binaries 
and update the tab files or do I need do a complete new install and redo all the tabs? 
 If I have to do complete install how do I keep the users current email?
