Do:
less /usr/lib/sendmail
and
less /usr/sbin/sendmail
What do you have? It should be:
#!/bin/sh
if [ -z $MAIL_ROOT ]; then
export MAIL_ROOT=/var/MailRoot
fi
/usr/sbin/sendmail.xmail $*
