Has anyone tested if system mails arrive on OpenBSD 3.7 ?

If I do
#mail root
Subject: test
test
..

... then the message stays in resending state without any SLOG created:

[127.0.0.1]:0;[127.0.0.1]:0;Thu, 13 Oct 2005 10:35:17 +0200
local.net

mail from:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
rcpt to:<root>
<<MAIL-DATA>>
