Hi,
how can I run xmail as non-root user?
My envirnoment is Debian Linux v6 (squeeze).

As root I added a system user named xmail w/o home dir, did
chown -R xmail.xmail /var/MailRoot
and tried to start xmail as follows (via /etc/init.d/xmail),
but it doesn't create the pid file, so the script waits endlessly...:

....
start_daemon()
{
    if [ -f $PID_FILE ]
    then
       stop_daemon
    fi

    # set env vars:
    MAIL_ROOT=$XMAIL_ROOT
    export MAIL_ROOT
    MAIL_CMD_LINE=$XMAIL_CMD_LINE
    export MAIL_CMD_LINE
# this isn't working, why?
    XMAIL_PID_DIR=/tmp
    export XMAIL_PID_DIR

    start-stop-daemon --start --chuid xmail:xmail --exec $DAEMON
while [ ! -f $XMAIL_PID_DIR/XMail.pid ]
    do
       echo -n "."
       sleep 1
    done
    echo ""
}
....

How to fix this, or what else is needed?

Thx
