Hi XMamers,
The facts: Slackware, kernel 2.0.36, XMame-0.34.1, P166-MMX.
~> uname -a
Linux bentley 2.0.36 #8 Wed Jan 6 20:59:58 MET 1999 i586
The case: I had an original SoundBlaster 1.5 which played sound reasonably well
under XMame with this configuration.
I layed my hand on a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16 (PAS16) and replaced the
SB with it. (I'm trying to play MP3-files with a 16bit card)
Yes, I rebuilt the kernel etc..., and a 'cat somefile.au > /dev/dsp'
still works.
However........
XMame now acts weird. I have 2, if I may say so, reference games, pacman and
phoenix, with which sound worked fine on the SB.
Now, with the PAS16:
- pacman hangs right after the first game-info-screen. I have to 'kill' xmame.
- phoenix just gives a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
So, I recompiled 0.34.1; 'diff' says the binary files differ, but the filesize
is the same (perhaps not too significant...)
There are no hardware-conflicts, I have attached some files which show some
vital information. In my system I have also an Adaptec 152x SCSI-card, but that
still works fine (I've read about some problems with PAS16 together with
Adaptec).
Anyone with an idea outthere?
I have read the README.unix, but can someone tell me _HOWTO_ play with the
various sound-parameters?
I'm a completely hardware-nono, I don't know how to efficiently play with these
parameters....
Please advise...
