Using two joysticks in Robotron

I finally have two similar joysticks hooked into my SB16 with a Y-adapter. I am
using the I386 joystick driver included with Linux kernel 2.2.3. How can I use
one joystick for moving and the other to fire in the direction it is pointing?
Is this a configuration thing or a source patch?
