I've been having an annoying problem with my 3DFX card lately not
necessarily directly related to Xmame (because it happens with any
3DFX app run in X-windows).

Every once in a while when I try to run a 3DFX application in X-Windows,
my screen goes blank and my monitor can't synch to the signal (probably
because the 3DFX card has switched the primary display off but the 3DFX
display isn't working). The only way that I've figured out how to get
the card out of this state is to reboot into Windows and run the DirectX
tests on the 3DFX card. Maybe cold booting would fix it as well, but I
keep my machine running 24/7 so I don't know if this also works. Then
the next time I boot into Linux, the 3DFX card works like a charm again.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas on how to fix
this? If someone knows of a way to fix this without having to reboot
into Windows, I would be very happy. I would even be happier if there
was a permanent fix though. I realize it is not an Xmame specific
problem, but it sure puts a damper on my Xmame'ing! :) I am hoping
someone might know of a fix... if not, I'll quietly look elsewhere for
an answer.

BTW, I am running Linux Mandrake 7.0 (Air), Device3Dfx-2.3.4-7mdk using
a Quantum Obsidian 8MB Voodoo Graphics card.
