I am a newbie to both xmame and linux. My linux box is a Athlon 1700 with a AGP TNT video card. I am running Debian Woody with XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1.

I would like to run xmame full screen wih no black border. What is the easiest way to do this? Should I get a better videocard?

My first try was to use xmame.svgalib -- however, I can not get the game to take up the entire screen, there is usually a black border. Some games (like puzzle bobble) the screen is totally black. I tried some of the effects, but they didn't give the look i was hoping for.

Then I tried xmame.SDL, but coldn't get it to run fullscreen.

Then I read about xvideo extension with hardware scalling. This sounds like the version i want? Unfortueatly I don't think xvideo supports my video card since I get the "no screens found" error message. I'm having trouble finding any information on xvideo, does anybody know what videocards are supported by xvideo? I think xfree 4.2 supports the nvdia cards, but i'm not sure how to find out for sure.
Anyway, i get errors like this building xmame.x11:
video-drivers/x11_window.c:906: `mit_shm_attached' undeclared (first use in this function)

So here is my main question:
Running xmame under linux, which of the display meathods is the best to pick if i want nice looking full screen output without any black border?
You need to put various modelines in your XF86Config file to get rid out that black border. There is a section in the FAQ that describes how to do this. HTH.
