"Heh - that was my hack, originally :)  It fixed a trench vector
rendering problem many years ago.  I took it out when I did a vector
game update last year, since it seemed to be no longer needed.

"Apparently it is still needed to fix that hanging bug as well.  If
so, please update the comment too.

"IIRC, this is all related to the behaviour of a TTL serial multiplier
chip in the game.  I didn't have one to analyze at the time."
