If you don't "make clean" then any version of mame on any platform can
compile/link with no errors & still blow up spectacularly in your face.
There could be offsets in arrays or sizes of structures that will be
inconcistent between the old & new .o's.

Unless you are a dev changing files that you know the consequence of, then
_ALWAYS_ do a make clean.
