I'm in the process of trying to get gxmame to work with xmame 0.84.
According to the patch, it's supposed to be piping stuff through xml2info, which I have no idea where to find.
How do I find or build this tool?
It's built automatically when you build xmame. I imagine you could use the code directly, though it might require permission from its author(s).
