        Yes, you can.  Is it easy - it depends on the data.  If the data
coming to and from the spreadsheet files are consistent, then you will
have better results.  Without seeing the data I can't tell you the best
approach but here are a few ways to approach the problem:

1.  Output from Excel (Windows 2000).  Save as Web file and convert
    from MS XML to required XML file using XSLT.  Robust style sheets
    from Excel will help this process dramatically.

2.  Write a Macro within Excel and/or Lotus to wrap the data in conforming
    XML elements then save as XML.

3.  Write a filter in your favorite programming language to convert
    a delimited file to XML.  My favorite programming language for
    this kind of conversion is Omnimark.  Perl or other programming
    language can also be used.

In order to ensure success, you have to analyze the data coming and
going to the spreadsheet.
