Quick and easy answer:

--> If you have *existing* DocBook v4.1.2 documents, just open them in XXE.

--> If you have existing DocBook v4.1.2 documents and want to create a
*new* DocBook v4.1.2 document, use "File|Open As Template..." and
specify an existing DocBook v4.1.2 document as a template.
That is, ***do not "use File|New..." for that.***

The other possible answer involve slightly modifying the XXE
configuration for DocBook, which points to DTD 4.3 (XXE V3.0) or to DTD
V4.4 (XXE V3.0p1).

If the above quick and easy method does not satisfy you, do not hesitate
to send another email requesting info about the more elaborate way of
doing things.

Yes.

(Free) Standard Edition does not allow to generate PDF *unless*:

[1] You download and install (free) RenderX XEP Personal (or Trial)
Editions from http://www.renderx.com/

[2] You upgrade to XXE V3.0p1. (We don't keep old versions of our plug-ins.)

[3] You download and install xep_foprocessor-30p1.zip from
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/plugins.shtml

(There is probably a typo here. You mean DocBook V4.3.)

No, there is no problem at all. At the best, the above quick and easy
method is OK for you. At worst, 5 minutes of tweaking the DocBook
configuration would force XXE V3.0 to use DocBook V4.1.2 as its default
DocBook version.
