Cut the following text:

        This word is<emph> emphasized</emph>.

and paste it in again, and you get:

        This word is<emph>emphasized</emph>.

In other words, leading (and presumably trailing) white space is dropped
from text nodes when they are copied.

Is this new behavior, or it is just the first time I have noticed it? In
general when writing, I'm careful to always enter

        This word is <emph>emphasized</emph>.

so it may just have passed me by. However, there are certain analogous
situations in my documents (involving other elements, not <emph>) where
leading/trailing spaces are necessary.

Is it possible to do anything to prevent the white space being dropped?

Best regards
