Instead please refer to the documentation of DocBook 4: http://www.docbook.org/tdg/en/html/docbook.html or of DocBook 5: http://www.docbook.org/tdg5/en/html/docbook.html By reading http://www.docbook.org/tdg5/en/html/imagedata.html you'll immediately find that setting attribute align of element imagedata to "center" will do the trick.
