tru is still in the process of learning how to use his MUA, but here is what he said ;-)

Thanks for starting this thread!

Let's start with last years' ideas[1], I think those might still be
relevant:
* New Media Library Database Backend (S4) - still as scary and crazy as
always.

As ever relevant! I think we should run with this again.

* XMMS2-specific GUI toolkit widgets (GTK+ or Qt) - possibly useful for an
official GUI, but tru has xmmsclient-qt already?

xmmsclient-qt is only IPC bindings, it could be expanded with
Playlist/Medialib models, but this has not be done yet.

* Effect chain clean-up and crossfade plugin

Hooray!

* Multiple channel support

I don't think we should run with this this year, it's to small.

* High-level clientlib (xmmsclient-easy)

Could be a good idea!

In addition, those are things that came to my mind for this year (most
wanted first):
* MPD-bridge - rafl has one, but it's not complete and it's in Perl.. would
include proper testing of various mpd clients

How relevant is MPD these days anyway?

* mergestatus - although it's still unclear what the specs really are

I have no idea!

* teh new GUI - work with the community, potentially only accepting proved
contributors

yes, this could be a good task. But we need someone that we have a
good relationship with already.

* web-based or experimental client (iphone, maemo, android, karaoke, you
name it)
* spotify xform - is it really hard enough to take a whole summer?

I have no opinions on the above.

* bring back a log/history of played things - as a table or collection, or
should it be a service client?

Yes, that would be cool. But is it big enough?

Purposeful omissions:
* GenIPC - it's being done anyway, right?

Yaeah, I think tilman is almost done<tm>?

* Service clients - let's merge that ourselves first, shall we?

Agreed, we should not have any soc that depend on this.
