I really want to say yes, but I know I have (hardware) customers that
document it as the way to generate an xorg.conf file. Apparently just
_writing_ as much of one as you need is too much to ask. But, when I
ask them _why_ they (or their customers) need the ability to generate
one, I tend not to get an answer...

Perhaps we'd want to move to a model where xorg.conf.d comes pre-
populated with the default settings (possibly just commented out). If
done properly we could entirely throw out xf86AutoConfig.c, which
certainly has its appeal.
