Ok, I just got it working with an older live CD (Ubuntu - Gutsy Gibbon). When I
looked at the Xorg.0.log with the live CD it showed the ati driver with version
6.7.195.

Can I start the git bisect there? 



P.S. Sorry to ask, but what is YMMV?
