I wrote that from memory after having read thru the patch on the commits
list.  But I either mis-read or mis-remembered.  The reverted patch
actually uses Steve Reid's public domain C implementation, not Brian's.

Steve's implementation is also the basis of the one in Wei Dai's crypto++.

(Brian's implementation¹ may be the fastest in C, but -- unlike Steve's
and Peter's -- is BSDish || GPL rather than Public Domain.)
