We've already stopped shipping xdm as part of the standard X.Org distribution. One of the things a desktop environment does is manage things like input devices. 'I want to run without a desktop environment' is probably a valid viewpoint, but don't get surprised when your input devices don't get managed. Cheers, Daniel
