I tested Paulo's patch (49b93df8a3002db7196aa3fc1fd8dca1c12a55d6)
cherry picked to 1.6, and it works fine on Xorg. FWIW, fedora is using
this patch in rawhide to fix the same issue, and I don't think
anyone's complained.
