I am a newbie to Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS, and I have been struggling for

What do you have in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ ?

Instead of typing 'startx', what happens if you type (as root) 'Xorg
-configure' ?
Or 'Xorg -help' ?
