Every Wayland compositor I've seen relies on the kernel drivers for video cards,
instead of trying to do them in user-space as XFree86 and the early generations
of Xorg did. This is part of what limits Wayland from working on some other
kernels, that don't have these drivers ported, but shouldn't be a problem on
mainstream Linux & BSD kernels.
