I submitted this as a bug using the template web page but haven't heard
anything. I'd like to know if there's an easy solution to this problem.
I'm willing to check out code from CVS, build from source, test patches
etc (crash my machine :-).
The problem is that certain unfilled 'boxes' are drawn improperly. The
most common case is the text cursor drawn by emacs (in X11 mode) or by the
gnome-terminal. When these two apps are focused, they draw a filled box -
no problem. When they lose focus they draw an empty box where the text
cursor is. This is drawn improperly as ('##' == one pixel):

When this box is erased, the two extra pixels extending to the right on
the horizontal lines are not erased leaving two 'poops' behind on the
screen.
I've also noticed this bug in other places, most notably when a gtk
application shows which widget has focus, it does so by drawing a 1-pixel
black box around the widget. This box has the same problem exactly.
I've verified this bug on the following XFree versions:
4.0.3 as shipped with Red Hat 7.1 (i386)
4.1.0 binaries from xfree86.org (for linux glibc 2.2)
4.1.0 as shipped with Red Hat 7.2 (i386)
I've also tested under various linux kernels, and with the latest DRI
modules built and loaded. Nothing changes the bug.
