It is.

I have just installed 4.1.99-3 on my computer an it detects my 7500
beatifully.

On xfree86.org you'll find information on how to get the xfree source
from cvs. When you have it, a simple "make World; make install" will
compile and install 4.1.99-3 for you (full distribution, if you're up to
it, you can trim down the modules build).

It requires a good deal of space and a fairly new procssor though
(src+binary files takes about 600Mb, and I use an Athlon 700 for the
build --- takes some hours)
