now I am really embarassed. I just came home, checked the latest logfiles on my laptop, and they show 4.2.0 on top. Somehow I must have uploaded an earlier logfile. Apparently, this pixel-cloud issue was there before the latest upgrade, and I saved a logfile already that time in the hope that some they I find someone who is able to make sense of it. At any rate, new logfiles are available at the same address http://www.coe.uncc.edu/~ghetyei/X/ and I would be eager to know your comments. Does it look like I should have the latest "safe" version of the s3virge driver, or should I still replace it with the one from your page? Is there a way to tell the version number of the driver file?
