I'm trying to set up xfree86 for my laptop with chipset and video card Intel i830.
When I run startx it seems that everything is ok, but if I use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE or any combination of CTRL-ALT-F1...F2....to exit from it or change workspace, I get an useless screen without any shell or working mouse, and with patches of colors moving on the screen that change and nothing to do but push the reset button and get fsck when rebooting.
The same happens when I halt the system, the halt command works , but
the screen never return black..always the same terrible colors.....
Any hint?
