I have read over the mailing list here archives back since august 2002.

Problem: I am unable to get the card to work with X.

A number of the suggestions listed before reccommend adding an:

Option "ChipID 0x4966"
or
Option "ChipID 0x4243"

to the /etc/X11/XF86Config file in the device section for the card. (I am
guessing that by doing that you are somehow telling the ati driver that
this is also an accepted card to be handled by the driver?) When I try
this I get this for the /var/log/XFree86.0.log file (Note: more comments
after the file).

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
        reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)

I saw something along the line of trying to change the DEVICE_ID to
something different that 0x4966 (the device id of the card). So I tried
this:

setpci -s 1:0.0 DEVICE_ID=4243

Where 4243 I presume is another DEVICE_ID supported by the driver. When I
looked at the /proc/pci file it still said it was 4966 and when I did an
lspci it was also reported as 4966. Am I not using setpci correctly, or
just not correct in thinking that the card's DEVICE_ID can be changed?

Anyways, if there is a website detailing how to setup the card with X, I'd
appreciate it. I checked out the GATOS project page and it had not been
updated since august (atleast that is what the page I looked at said) and
did not have the 9000 pro card listed at all.

Help is much appreciated.

Aaron
