I found out what the problem was so I just thought I'd post the solution just in case anybody else runs into the same trouble as me.
As you probably noticed from my log file I am running and Ati Rage video card. Some some reason it was defaulting the video output signal to composite sync rather than the separate vertical and horizontal signals. The monitor could cope with the composite signal but the LCD display could not. I found an option for the video card that forces the video card not to use the composite sync output. This is placed in the device section and would look something like this: Section "Device" Option "composite_sync" "False" # [<bool>] Identifier "ATI Mach64" Driver "ati" VendorName "ATI Mach64" EndSection So just making sure I had the line: Option "composite_sync" "False" In the device block of the XF86Config file solved the problem. Matt. ======================================================== Hi, I recently bought an Proview LCD monitor to use on my Linux box. Unfortunately I cant get it work in X windows. Every time I load up X windows the LCD monitor flashes a message saying that the svga mode is not supported. I have read the H sync and V sync specs of the monitor and the mode I'm trying is well within the limits. The strange thing is on the message that flashes on the LCD screen it also displays the Vert and Horizontal syncs that it's trying to display. These values that are being displayed are well off limits for the LCD 79.1KHz Horizontal Sync and 97.9Hz Vertical sync. If I unplug my new LCD and plug my old CRT monitor the screen displays X no problem. The CRT also displays the current Vert and horizontal refresh rates and these come out as 48.4KHz H and 60Hz vertical. Now from these findings you would think the new LCD is broken. However It works fine when Linux is booting in the low res mode. It also works fine in windows 98 from the same machine (Multi boot) at 1024 x 768 and it displays the refresh rates as 48.4KHz H and 60Hz vertical. Has anybody got any ideas what the problem might be? I've included the Xfree86 boot log to give some extra details Thanks Matt XFree86 Version 4.2.1 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Release Date: 3 September 2002 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems.
