This one is easy.  From the rest of your message, it seems you're
running debian or ubuntu, right?  In this case, if you want to install
pymacs from source, you need python2.4-dev.

Of course, you don't need to, there is a perfectly good deb
'python2.4-pymacs'.  You may need to get it from sid or breezy, though;
I haven't checked where mine is from.
