It' alsmost like you two are kidding about this. ;) But it is possibe that you've never heard of this: use prelink. Sometimes the difference is more noticeable, but I guess it can always help. Be aware that the first prelink will take quite some time, so be patience.
some instructiones: 1. sudo apt-get prelink 2. sudo vi /etc/default/prelink 3.
