The big problem with Xserver 1.5 is it has dropped all the old
PCI bus code and switched to libpciaccess - but not all the video
drivers have been ported to that yet, so if you pull the current
code from that branch, you'll have to drop about half the video
drivers (mostly the older, lesser used cards, like Rendition &
3Dfx), and pull the current development branches of most of the
rest, as few have had formal releases with libpciaccess support.
Both 1.4.1 & 1.5 are still works in progress of course.
