xrandr 1.1 is included in Nevada already (/usr/X11/bin/xrandr).
If the driver supports rotation at runtime, you'ld run something
like: xrandr -o left
xrandr -q should show the available resolutions and rotations for
the current system.
If the driver doesn't support runtime rotation (I don't remember
what the nvidia driver supports off the top of my head), the
fallback would be changing the configuration file and restarting
X everytime you want to rotate.
For nvidia cards, you can run nvidia-xconfig -rotate to automate
this.
