I thought the release notes warned about this - the nVidia driver
packages are forcibly removed by upgrade and must be reinstalled
afterwards. This is unavoidable for now, and necessary for a
number of reasons - most notably because Xsun's nVidia driver will
crash, hang or draw junk on the screen on many cards when it tries
accessing the hardware the nVidia kernel driver is already managing,
and the install software still uses Xsun for now.

(Our team is working with the install team to convert the x86 installer
to use Xorg instead in the near future, at which point we'll be able
to include the nVidia accelerated driver directly into the OS install
and this problem will go away and everyone will have fast 2-D & 3-D
  graphics on their nVidia cards.)
