For what it is worth, I tried installing the X.org 1.5 test build... It does react differently (the monitor continues trying to resync instead of blanking out) but the end result (according to xrandr) is the same - 1680x1050 (0x83) 0.0MHz *current.
Is there a better or more reliable way to force the resolution without using the option "PreferredMode" in xorg.conf which doesn't seem to be accepted by the Xserver... Also, I have tried the same monitor working on a different system with a nvidia graphics card, it seems to determine it and works ok, so I have a feeling it is a problem with the ati driver under X (console mode seems to work fine). thanks in advance -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
