The text console on Toshiba Tecra M5 and M9 (possibly M10) can be blank after starting X on recent Solaris releases. The symptom is the text console is fine during the initial boot, but after starting X just once the text console may be blank until the next reboot. This includes a command line login or the text console displayed as part of the shutdown. This happens using either the NVIDIA accelerated driver or the nv/vgatext drivers.
The workaround on the M5 is to change the SBIOS option on page 2, Configuration -> Device Config from "Setup by OS" (default) to "All Devices". There is a similar option on the M9.
