Q: Has driver support for the GeForce FX 5700XT been obsoleted
as previously claimed in this thread?
A: No.

Q: Will the R173 driver need to be manually loaded in the near future?
A: Yes, for Solaris Express Community Edition unless you modify the cluster
during installation. Maybe, for OpenSolaris as I don't know what happens
if the NVDAgraphics IPS package is removed from the local system.

Q: Is there a plan to make legacy driver installation better?
A: Yes, it is underway but it is a lot of work.

Q: How does this compare to other OSes?
A: Microsoft and most Linux distros don't bundle the NVIDIA
driver, forcing *all* users to manage the driver. In Solaris
we bundle the current release driver which enhances the
out-of-the-box experience for most users.

Q: Is there a planned obsolescence for driver support as previously
claimed in this thread?
A; No. Even though the board in question is circa 2004 driver
support continues. Compare that to the support users got from
Microsoft for Vista+Aero and Apple for Power Macs circa 2004.
