If you do try building one of the Xorg RC2 releases yourself on Solaris, you'll need to apply this patch:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=3773
in order to get buttons working on mice using the "VUID" protocol
(USB mice and/or mice using the "virtual" mouse support in recent
Solaris kernels).
