The function was split because I was following the work by Thornton
who suggested something equivalent to prove that the shear stress
contribution to the total stress was little if compared to the normal
one during a triaxial loading. Why would you not split it at all? Just
curious :-)

maybe "at all" was too strong, but I meant nothing more than for usual
computations you need the total stress, :-)
So would you prefer to have this function as a basic and other functions
(total stress) built from its results? Just asking before I do it :-)
