AN OPEN LETTER TO THE FOUNDERS OF THE FRIENDS OF DEMOCRACY WEBSITE –
TERRO LEKOTA AND CO.

By: Kaizer Mohau

It has come to the attention of many in the country that there is a
growing tendency amongst some in the movement to publicly insult,
negatively criticise and to denounce the ANC and its leadership.

While it could be argued that those insulting the ANC and its
leadership are expressing their democratic right which is enshrined
even in the constitution of the land – one need to place it before all
that this is the kind of liberal democracy we do not know in the ANC.

It will be remembered that in line with the principled practice in the
ANC, Comrades cannot communicate their disagreements which are about
their own organisation in public unless circumstances dictates
otherwise.

The manner in which the ANC President in particular and the ANC as an
organisation have been insulted by some people in the abovementioned
website leaves much to be desired. It cannot be correct that members
of the ANC will use this public platform to insult the President of
their own organisation – it cannot be correct Comrades.

When requested to step down as a result of an ANC NEC decision, former
President Thabo Mbeki did not resist – this was not because Cde TM was
stupid – but it was because of his commitment and understanding of the
ANC and its organisational protocol.

So for some to go public and humiliate the ANC cannot impress him –
therefore it should not be done in his name.

When some of our cadres burned a T- shirt bearing the face of Cde TM
the ANC came out hard against them including the then Deputy President
of the ANC Cde Jacob Zuma – it is within this context that any conduct
that is unbecoming and not in line with the spirit of Unity and
cohesion of our movement should be rejected by all disciplined cadres
of the movement.

Terror Lekota and Co.

Accordingly, the open letters written by Terro Lekota should have been
ignored if it was not by the media which has decided consciously to
provide a political platform for Lekota to continue his uncalled for
attacks on the ANC.

Lekota has all of a sudden become the voice of those not happy with
the NEC decisions – it must equally be noted that the Lekota attacks
are not only against the NEC decision to recall the President of the
Republic but against the ANC as a whole.

The manner in which the media has treated Lekota's reactionary
shenanigans it has become completely impossible to ignore.

Terro Lekota, as a seasoned cadre of the movement is being mischievous
and silly in his conduct as he knows very well that his conduct is
un-organisational and divisive indeed.

It is him Lekota, who is feeding the media with the thinking about a
possible formation of a political party to contest the elections
against the ANC – please Comrades, this will be the most reactionary
thing members of the ANC could ever imagine doing.

The establishment of this so-called friends of democracy website
coupled with the talk about the formation of a political party sounds
like the basis of serious challenges facing our movement.

While there are no practical bases to believe some of the things said
about other comrades, we need not relax lest we be taken by surprise.

Those joining this bandwagon of self appointed democrats – without any
clue about democracy have the potential of destroying the same
movement our leaders built so hard and under very difficult
conditions.

We can fold our arms when the likes of Terro Lekota and co. are
seriously trying to kill the very ANC that they claim to belong to.

Over this weekend Comrade Julius Malema has been attacked for calling
on the former President to avail himself for the ANC election work – I
think the attack on Malema was uncalled for and unComradely to the
extreme.

It will be remembered that the former President reassured South Africa
and the ANC that he will continue to be a loyal and discipline member
of this organisation- as such Cde Malema was correct to call on one of
our own to join us in facing the gigantic challenge of ensuring that
we win elections next year.

We need to ensure Comrades that the central thing we work towards – is
the unity and cohesion of our movement, our differences cannot be the
basis on which battle lines are drawn – but need to be the basis on
which unity and cohesion are built.

Hoping and trusting that Comrades begins to do some introspection in
terms of where do we want to take this organisation and how we could
in the most rapid and solid manner achieve the strategic objectives we
have set ourselves in the period and process of historical evolution
of our revolution.

Attacking each other in the manner we do today, does not in any case
assist the ANC or the country to move forward.

FOR THE ANC LIVES AND THE LEADS – WE MUST FORGE UNITY AND COHESSION!
