*YCL Response to Mr Terror Lekota!* *07 October 2008*
The Young Communist League [uFasimba] has noted with disgust the second malicious letter penned by political imbecile and former National Chairperson of the African National Congress [ANC], Mr Terror Lekota. We see the open letter of Mr Lekota as distasteful, arrogant, and full of personalization of the views of the ANC and the Alliance, and take a cheap and cowardly blow at the National Chairperson of the SACP and Secretary General of the ANC in an attempt to isolate him. It is despicable that Lekota who presided and led an ANC as its National Chairperson for a period of a decade finds its now fashionable and acceptable to lament the leadership of the ANC through the media. We are not surprised! This reminds us of the terrible and painful period in the Alliance, where a powerful and dominant faction in the ANC which Lekota was its agent provocateur attacked the leadership of the Alliance partners; labelling them as ultra-lefts, children in the revolution and extraordinary arrogant, just to mention a few. This was done with a sole purpose or intention of breaking and dividing the Alliance. Now that the 52nd National Conference of the ANC reaffirmed the importance of the Alliance, we are now witnessing a situation whereby public platforms particularly the media are being abused and used as a proper hotline channel to cowardly attack the decisions of the ANC and the Alliance. Mr Lekota says "You are the first one to serve as both ANC and Communist Party office bearer simultaneously ...This is another element of serious departure of our present leadership from the established practice of the movement...It probably explains and contributes to the mistaken approach of the Young Communist League that they have the right to call on the ANC from time to time to dismiss some of its members if they are not happy with such members". This really shows that Lekota suffers from historical political amnesia. If Lekota is brave enough and has a problem with Communists occupying key positions in the ANC, he should raise such problems within the structures of the ANC and the Alliance. This narrow and foreign leadership tendency defeats the rich history and contribution made by erstwhile communists' leaders such as Moses Mabhida, Yusuf Dadoo, Moses Kotane, Joe Slovo and Chris Hani in shaping the ANC as a progressive organisation biased to the working class and the poor. Fortunately, ANC members will not be fooled by these ill – informed and misguided questions. There is a long established tradition and practice in the movement whereby senior leaders of the SACP also occupied leading positions in the ANC; these include Cde Moses Kotane, ANC Treasure- General and SACP General-Secretary, Cde Dan Tloome, SACP National Chairperson and ANC Deputy Secretary-General. This long tradition was systemically being broken by the irks such as Lekota and his cronies in their failed effort at the bourgeoisification of the ANC which was becoming dangerous for the country and working class. It is this bourgeoisification of the ANC that led to delegates at the watershed 52ndNational Conference of the ANC to reject and dismiss Lekota's thuggish leadership style. We are not surprised by these 'open letters' because the current leadership of the ANC and the Alliance share a common perspective on a variety of issues in bringing about a better life for all our people, as opposed to selected and politically connected few; they are committed in building the Alliance from below; Alliance being in the forefront of popular struggles faced by our people especially the poor. As the YCL, we see these unprincipled and anti-movement actions of Lekota as a continuation of defocusing the ANC and the Alliance from qualitative preparations for an overwhelming election victory next year [2009]. We are further of the view that Lekota's actions are basically a protest of his non re-election to the NEC and are being caused by the Communists who simultaneously occupy senior positions in both the ANC and the SACP. We are of the view that Lekota is a political burden not only to the ANC, but also to the Mass Democratic Movement, and his actions are desperation on his part to be shown the door and be expelled from the Congress movement. The ANC and the movement will be much stronger and better in the absence of Lekota and others. Lekota is a political imbecile and a stooge of the defeated 1996 class project in Polokwane. His letters are manifestation of a concerted political strategy by the class project to discredit the ANC and divorce the Alliance from its mass base and support. It is our view that Lekota has become nothing but an apron of a naked emperor, believing that he hides the emperor's weaknesses while it is clear to us that his ilk are sobering up from power loss. These letters should also be understood and located within a context of a political ploy by the 'wounded victims' of the Polokwane Springs to form a new political party that will safeguard the interests of the white monopoly capital in the country. The Alliance as the strategic centre of political power will continue to vigorously improve the lives of our people, especially the working class and the poor. As resolved in the Alliance Summit, the Alliance should give priority to education, health and decent work for all our people as guided by the vision of the Freedom Charter.
