The SABC's call for more funding from governement at this point in time must be looked at critically. The inefficinces that have resulted in financial mismangement in this public entity are a result of the Pre-Polokwane manipulation of this public braodcaster by those who were in power in that era.The Post-Polokwane ANC and the Government in waiting of the ANC must not be railroaded by this institution into granting of public funds without there being structural changes therein. I listened to Bheki justifying their reason as the SABC Board to request funds from government. He states it correctly that a resolution was taken at Polokwane for government to fund this ailing corporation. That's a fact. But does government and the ANC need to be reminded in this manner, about resolutions it took in the December 2007 Elective Conference. This smacks of blackmailing and it makes one wonder if there are no deliberate actions to make this public broadcaster disfunctional going towards the elections. I also listened to the Acting CEO of SABC on SAFm last night talking about turnaround strategies they plan to adopt going forward, to rescuscitate the financial situation. He said there is no crisis but at the same they are putting turnaround strategies, for what?He talked about cutting business trips, prudent spending on accomodation for conferences, freezing of vacant posts, nothing else.To me that's a drop in the ocean, because these are just operational costs which have nothing to do with the current financial crisis in that institution. The better way to address this is to identify root causes so that you know and understand the systemic features of the problem you want to address. For instance if management and the Board of the SABC complains about politicising the institution, one needs to ask a question, when did all this start.Who was at the helm of running the institution when this happened. You cannot say now that the institution must not be politicised whilst at the same time you seek funds from the same politicians. The same politicians are correcting the politicising of the instution from the past. The bottom line of all this argument is that those in charge of governance in this coroporation must come out clean of their intentions. The Current President must quickly deal with the Amendment Bill in his desk which I beleive may go a long way to resolve some of the issues which have resulted to the current situation. I say comrades our ANC cannot be held acconutable for the inefficiences of the past administration!
