The Movement Must Deal with
Godongwana
By Luzuko Buku
The public utterances made by Health Minister Barbara Hogan
are reckless and are characterised by complete disrespect of organisational
discipline. Of all people, comrade Barbara would understand that discipline in
the movement means respect of decisions taken by the majority and higher
structures.

It is indeed true that the ANC is not government but is in
government, so discipline in government might mean something very different to
our organisational principles and values. I want to agree with government
spokesperson,
Themba Maseko that government has to address the issue of how ministers conduct
themselves in instances where they do not agree with the position of
government.

Nonetheless, I want to appeal to comrades not to crucify
comrade Barbara for a silly mistake that I think she regrets having made.
Wherever she is, she must regret it, not because she has changed her views and
is
now in agreement with government but mainly because she has just spitted at our
historically valued and respected organisational principles by compromising
democratic centralism.

We should not crucify comrade Barbara mainly because it’s
her first time in a national ministerial position and as we all know it’s just
few months since she has been there. As young cadres of the movement we say, we
learn from our mistakes.

With all this said, it was totally wrong for Enoch
Godongwana to call for the resignation of comrade Barbara Hogan. Who is
Godongwana to do this? Has he forgotten the workers that were fired by employers
during his tenure in NUMSA? Does he know that most of those women did not
receive
any form of employment since then and as a result are living in abject poverty?

He criticises comrade Barbara for the same thing that he is
doing. The ANC delegates people to speak to the media on matters and issues
affecting the organisation and on this matter it deployed its spokeswoman
comrade
Jessie Duarte.
 Godongwana undermines
the ANC and comrade Jessie and goes to public without any instruction from the
ANC. The ANC must decisively deal with Godongwana as he undermines it and
further he paints a picture that our movement is in crisis, whereas it is not.

Comrades must remember that this is the same Godongwana that
was implicated in the Nzimande wanting to topple Kgalema Motlante saga. What
does
these recent utterances say about Godongwana and the rumours that were heralded
in the media? We concluded that these rumours were just said by people who
wanted to create divisions in the ANC leadership. Does this tell us anything as
to who is the NEC member who said this and wanted to remain anonymous in the
media?

Godongwana is acting in a factionalist manner that indicates
it clearly that his sympathies are not with the current ANC the reasons for his
stay are only to divide it. Where is Godongwana when we are addressing issues
of development, because I only hear about him in situations where there is
controversy?
Our movement should discipline but not crucify comrade
Barbara but the issue of Godongwana should be looked at. Is he having his slice
being bettered from both sides?

I believe that our government took economical & political correct decesion not
allowing Delai Lama to come to our country. Government sometimes have to
rise above the occasions & provide leadership by making the so called
unpopular decisions in the best interst of the country. Yes it is true that
some people have been crying foul because of this decision. But we have to
live with it, because Im of the view that it is in the best interest of this
country & its future. Lets refrain from making shortsighted analysis of the
matter.

comrades,

we should applaud the decision to not allow the dalai lame into SA,
and we should use this opportunity to dispel false claims that the
Dalai Lama is an advocate of democracy and that Tibet should be an
independent state.

firstly should Tibet be independent?
tibet has only ever be ruled independently from china for 97
years....and this ended in 1368. since then tibet has been ruled as
part of china mainly from baijing. it was only after the republican-
pro western revolution in 1912 that the Dalai Lama's army took control
of modern day Tibet. when the red army marched into Tibet not only
did it break the feudal system that the dalai lama had installed., it
also reclaimed the historical land of china. We must remember that it
was the British government that funded the dalai lamas army with
weapons in order to keep it free from Chinese rule as Britain still
owned the then colony of India.

the dalai lama claims that China discriminates against Tibetans and
has acted to kill of Tibetans though acts of genocide. The dalai lame
has claimed on numerous occasions that the Tibetans need to remain
racially pure and only speaks out in favour of Tibetans (similar in
fact to Aryans and Hitler). in actuality Tibet has an incredibly
diverse population and historically existed of 4 different racial and
language groups where interbreeding between the traditional groups was
common place (used to be called mongralisation i believe). Yet the
dalai consistently falsifies the number or traditional Tibetans living
in Tibet but also surrounding Chinese territory in an attempt to
distort an image that there is a Tibetans majority who have a 'real'
claim for independence.

during the years of full autonomy before the red army liberated Tibet,
the dalai lama had instigated a system of feudalism, where rather then
kings and queens in charge it was buddist monks and leaders and the
population had to pay tribute to there religious leaders, if the Tibet
became an independent nation, this is the type of system that would be
instigated once more, yet the media portray him as a saviour of
democracy

finally the area that is included in the dalai lamas claim as Tibet
counts as a much higher land area then Tibet has every historically
had control over and there is no historical bases for this land are,
apart from the falsified figures that the dalai lame quotes as
traditional Tibetans.

it is clear to see that the reason Tibet gets so much news space is a
imperialist agenda to weaken the state of china and drumming up anti-
china sentiment. Don't forget the American's have done it before with
Taiwan where the republican leadership fled with the support of the US
and Britain in order to break up china's territorial claims. We must
defend china's claim to tibet, and we must oppose with all our
strength an attempt to politicise the World Cup along these grounds.
